Christian Education
Paul writes to Timothy in the final days of his earthly ministry,
“Follow the pattern of the sound words that you have heard from me, in the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. By the Holy Spirit who dwells within us, guard the good deposit entrusted to you” (2 Timothy 1:13-14).
Sunday Christian Education
It is our joy and our aim to properly equip our flock with His Word. The emphasis on Sunday afternoons is to further prepare the flock with various tools to aid in their pursuit of properly interpreting the Word of God. The atmosphere is purposely relaxed to provide the student with an opportunity to fellowship and to discuss the material that is covered with other students and teachers. The end goal is to inform the heart and the mind such that the Holy Spirit is able to further work in the believer’s life and thus apply the divine Word of God. The classes offered for Christian Education change quarterly.
Winter Quarter 2010 Classes
Finance, Stewardship, and Career Builder Workshop · Eric Fang, Caleb Chao, Leon Shen · Room 202
Practical Steps for the College Student and Working Professional
Am I in the right major? What kind of job or ministry could I be great and useful at? What does stewardship and tithing look like? What does the bible say about profit, money, and ownership? What do I need to know about resumes and interviews in today’s job market? How has God gifted me for service in both the “church-place” and the workplace? Why is it more important to focus on my strengths rather than my weaknesses? How do I work with that person I really don’t get along with? What does every college student transitioning to the workplace need to think about?
Hear from Point Loma Nazarene University MBA candidates Eric Fang, Leon Shen, and Caleb Chao as the questions listed above are addressed and discussed in seven hands-on workshops and a Q&A session with the instructors and mandarin congregation (EFC) leadership.
The Ten Commandments · Andy Pei · Room 203
When God gave the Ten Commandments to the Israelites on Mt. Sinai, He did it so that they would know how to best relate to Himself and each other. Around 3,500 years later, those words still speak to us by not only instructing us on how to live, but also informing us on our inability to keep the law and thus our need for a Savior. Learn how these timeless truths apply to our lives and culture today, and ultimately point to the One in whom they are fulfilled.
Famous Women in Christian History · David Pat · Room 204
Have you ever wondered about the contributions women have made to Christian history? Well wait no more! This class will explore the stories of all the famous women who have changed the world. From missionaries to mothers, the lives of these women will hopefully inspire a new generation of women to do great things for the Kingdom!
Basic Bible Doctrines: Man, Sin and Salvation · Pastor Jeff · Room 106
This class will center around three key areas of doctrine; man, sin, and salvation. Some of the questioned to be addressed in this class include ‘what is man?’, ‘what does it mean to be created in the image of God?’, ‘what does it mean to be created male and female?’, ‘how did Adam’s sin affect the entire human race?’, and ‘how are Christians to understand the different aspects of salvation?’. For those wanting to sharpen their understanding of these particular areas of theology, this is the class for you.
Worship Matters · Lynn Chyi · Room 310
Primarily, this class will focus on the heart of worship and why it matters so much to our church. While there are many, many forms of worship this course will focus on the subsection of music within our church as a form of worship. Why do we sing songs? Why do they glorify God? How does it relate to the congregation, to you and to me?
We will also go over practical ideas and applications to worship as a ministry and how we can better serve God in that capacity. One heavy resource is Bob Kauflin’s book Worship Matters. Having said that, this class is geared primarily towards worship team members but I am sure that it will be beneficial to you in any context because we will go over issues that can be applied to any ministry and also go over attributes of a good Christian servant as well.

Fall Quarter 2009 Classes
Basic Bible Doctrines · Pastor Jeff · Room 310
In this class, we will focus on two main doctrines. The first is the doctrine of Scripture, where we will consider things like inspiration, inerrancy, canonicity, and other topics related to the Bible. Then we will move to a study of the doctrine of God, where we will consider the arguments for the existence of God, the attributes of God, the Trinity, and Deity of Jesus Christ.
The Spirit that Gives Life · Pastor Chris Wu · Room 202
This course is a study of pneumatology, the person and the work of the Holy Spirit. The study of any systematic theology is a means toward the end of loving the Lord with all your heart, soul, mind and strength. Accordingly, the overriding objective of this class is to produce better worshipers who will lead the body of Christ in worship of the one, true, triune God.
For those of you in the class: Syllabus
Minor Prophets Survey · Ryan Cheung · Room 204
In most churches today, the Old Testament is all too often neglected for sake of the New Testament. Furthermore, the Old Testament section of the Minor Prophets usually remains the section of our Bibles where the pages stick together because we don’t ever turn there. The purpose of the Minor Prophets class is to examine the message and themes of these books. Are the messages of these few men still relevant today? Can the church still learn from what words of these godly men? The answer to these questions is “Yes!” Join the class to find out how!
Pro-Life Persuasion · Steve Liu · Room 203
Abortion is the most frequently performed surgery on adults in America, with one out of four conceived babies in the US surgically aborted, over 1.2 million per year, over 3000 per day! With facts like these, there’s no doubt that Christians need to be mobilized in the battle for the most sharply dividing issue in America. This class will help you stop being unprepared and speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves.
Rescue those being led away to death; hold back those staggering toward slaughter. If you say, “But we knew nothing about this,” does not he who weighs the heart perceive it?
Proverbs 24:11-12
