Homeless Ministry
It’s very easy to look the other way when we see the homeless. It’s also very easy to walk the wide path that leads to destruction. It’s all too common that Christians preach a Gospel of a merciful God, but all to often that it’s left there. In an attitude of being like Christ, we strive to serve these people through showing compassion and mercy out of our love for God and others and we ultimately hope that our actions and lifestyles show and point others to the sacrificial love of Christ Jesus our Lord and His story of an amazing Love.
Homeless ministry is a response to misery or suffering while pointing those we encounter to Christ as their true treasure. As Jesus calls us to love our neighbor as ourselves, we show mercy to both believers and unbelievers. We are drawn to show mercy to Christians because we see Christ in them while we are drawn to show mercy to unbelievers because we want to see Christ in them.
Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen:
to loose the chains of injustice
and untie the cords of the yoke,
to set the oppressed free
and break every yoke?Is it not to share your food with the hungry
and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter—
when you see the naked, to clothe him,
and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?
Isaiah 58 : 6-7
