Praise Team
The purpose of worship is not to get something, but to give something to God. John Wimber, father of the Vineyard movement and arguably one of the founders of the modern worship movement, once said,
“It’s not what you get out of worship, it’s what He gets out of you.”
This quote resonates because it reminds us who we are and who God is. We are the worshiper and God is to be worshipped. It is so simple, yet at times so easily forgotten. God is to be worshipped.
Becoming true worshippers is a chief assignment God has given us for this lifetime. We are called to live a life of worship. The Word, our walk with Christ, the different and varying works of the church, are all expressions of worship; they flow out of hearts that are devoted to the Lord.
We are designed to worship.
What is our role as the praise team? We can take an illustration from John the Baptist—we prepare the way. Our goal as the praise team is to prepare the way for Jesus, help people connect with Him, and then get out of the way. Our first priority is that God is worshiped and glorified.
Harvest’s Praise Team ministry oversees musical worship for both Harvest College Fellowship and Harvest Sunday service.
“Worship in the Bible involves praising Him for who He is, thanking Him for what He has done, and desiring Him to give Himself more glory by further acts of mercy, judgment, and power, and trusting in Him for our concerns for our own and other’s future well-being.”
